This trip is ideal for guests that will travel to Greece and they want to make sure that they will visit all the must-see archeological sites of the country.
Well, we recommend you – if your flight arrives early in Athens airport – to rent a car and drive to the Delphi the same day. (Most visitors, they choose to stay at the beginning of their trip to Greece in Athens – due to it is safer for you to stay the last night before your flight back to your country, in Athens – we suggest that you schedule your Athens visit during the last days of your trip – so you will not have to wake up very early or as general to be under pressure the last day to arrive at the airport on time, having a long distance to drive). – CLICK ON EACH MAP TO OPEN THE GOOGLE MAPS.
You can read more information about Delphi here. We recommend you to book your accommodation either in Delphi city (which is close to the archeological site) or in Arachova which is a very nice small city, on your way to Delphi (10Km away).
Next day, you can wake up in the morning and visit the archeological site of Delphi. During noon, you can depart to Nafplion. (on your way to Nafplion, you can have a fast break in Corinth to see and take pictures of the Corinth Canal – which is by the way next to the high way – so you do not have to change your way too much).
(If you prefer to drive only high way, you can choose the grey line at the above map – click here for this option).
After visiting the Corinth canal, it is very close to drive to Nafplio.
Once you are in Nafplio, you can spend the evening in the city, walking around the old city centre and the port and rest. We recommend you to stay 2 to 3 days in Nafplio, so that you will have enough time to visit the Mycenae Archeological site, the Epidaurus Ancient Theatre and of course to explore the city. You can read information regarding the city’s landmarks here. You can read information about the beaches here. You can find photos of the city here.
Below you can find the maps and directions to visit Mycenae Archeological site and Epidaurus Ancient Theatre from Nafplio city.
After your 2 or 3 days stay in Nafplio, you can drive to Ancient Olympia. Read information about Ancient Olympia here. Below you can find the map:
Once you are in Ancient Olympia, you can visit the Archeological site and you can spend 1 night in the city of Ancient Olympia.
Next day, you can drive towards Athens.
Once you are in Athens – we recommend you to stay 2 to 4 nights for sure – so that you will have enough time to visit all the Archeological sites (The Acropolis, the Theatre of Herodes Atticus, the Ancient Cemetery of Kerameikos, the Filopappos Hill, the Ancient Agora, the Stoa of Attalos, the Temple of Hephaestus, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Panathenaic Stadium, the Roman Agora, the Arch of Hadrian, the Theatre of Dionysus, – all of these archeological places are located next to the downtown. You can also visit the Temple of Sounion).
Regarding your accommodation in Athens we suggest the following areas/locations:
If you prefer to stay close to the downtown (Psiri, Filopappou, Thiseio, Petralona) – you can use public transportation
If you prefer to stay close to the downtown but not exactly at the town centre (Abelokipoi, Panoromou, Neos Kosmos) – you can use public transportation
If you prefer a more high end location (Kifisia, Marousi) – you can use public transportation
If you prefer to stay close to the sea across (Palaio Faliro, Alimos, Glifada, Voula) – you recommend you to rent a car.
